Pre-Nursery

Our Pre-Nursery Class is designed to provide a warm, structured environment in which your child can discover their identity as a learner, friend, and member of a community.

OUR APPROACH

A Foundation Built on Love, Safety, and Curiosity

The Pre-Nursery Class at King’s Care is a bridge between the free play of early toddlerhood and the more structured learning of nursery. Kids between the ages of 2 and 3 are first taught the rhythms and routines of a school day, such as getting to school, group time, learning activities, meals, outdoor play, and rest. This structure is not strict instead, it gives you peace of mind. Kids this age do well when they know what will happen next.

The natural developmental milestones for kids ages 2 to 3 are the basis of our Pre-Nursery curriculum. At this point, language is exploding. Kids are learning new words every day and starting to make sentences, ask questions, and tell simple stories. We take advantage of this by making the environment rich in words. Storytelling, singing, talking, and interactive reading are all part of the day. A love of words, not a pencil, is the first step to early literacy.

We choose our teachers for this level based on their ability to be patient, warm, and really understand two- and three-year-olds, who are both fun and hard to deal with. Tantrums, changes, and times of strong emotion are dealt with with understanding and consistency. Kids don’t just learn more in Pre-Nursery; they also feel more capable, confident, and excited about what school has to offer.

What Your Child Gains in Pre-Nursery

Cognitive

Vocabulary of 300-1000+ words, two-to-three word sentences, early phonological awareness, picture recognition, and early comprehension are all developed through daily intensive language immersion.

Social

Naming and managing emotions, beginning to resolve conflicts with adult guidance, developing empathy, and learning to wait, share, and cooperate in group settings.

Academics

Running, jumping, and climbing with better coordination. Drawing, threading, shaping clay, and turning pages are all things that help kids get ready to write in the future.

Physical

Running, jumping, climbing with increasing coordination. Drawing, threading, moulding clay, turning pages — fine motor skills preparing the hand for future writing.

Ready for Nursery

When your child finishes Pre-Nursery, they are ready for a more structured way to learn. They will start formal early literacy and numeracy programs in our Nursery Class, but they will still be able to play, explore, and grow. The change is meant to feel like a natural next step, not a big jump.
